blah day

I had a good week. i did end up losing a couple of pounds!!

I can't wait for fall to get here. Perfect walking weather and I actually have clothes that work for cooler weather. I just don't have summer clothes. I was just standing at my closet wishing I could wear a sweater tonight!

I got called today about a job. I don't really want the job because it would be about a $10,000 a year pay cut. I guess I need to realize that my last job was paying way more than most do. I guess that's also why I wasn't too surprised when they picked me during the lay offs. I'm half way thru unemployment and feel that I need to get something before it runs out. I put in an app at Lakewood Hospital. That would be so fab to get! I could walk to work! That's important because we share an older car. If I take the other job, we'll for sure need to buy another car. Oh, well. whatever should happen will happen. I'm not going to worry about it!

stupid winter coldness

so we bought 2 space heaters and have been keeping the heat down pretty far because the gas bills last winter almost killed us. They were about $300 a month for a stupid small bungalow with no insulation that was always cold anyways. Well, I just got our first winter bill and it's $284.82! WTF??? I hate being cold in my own house but I guess we have to turn down the heat a little more. This fucking blows.

R.I.P. Eloise

We got a letter yesterday that the chicken we sponsor/adopted from Farm Sanctuary, Eloise, has passed away. Last night was not good. Very sad and a lot of tears. She had problems with her reproductive organs because while she was at the factory farm she was forced to lay 5 times the normal amount of eggs. I'm glad we got to meet her but in a way that makes this even harder. Before August she was just a picture we had hanging on our fridge. The letter Farm Sanctuary sent us was so beautiful. I've really come to love the organization and all of the people that work there. The letter was not just some hey sorry your animal died form letter. It was so sweet and personalized. We will always think of her. She changed our lives that day we got to meet her. That may sound crazy to someone but to think of all of the horrors that she had been thru and then to see her running around playing with her friends was so beautiful.

I've had chronic knee pain for years and years now and am pretty sure I have arthritis. I always thought I would just have to live with it because all joint relief medication has gelatin and that does not fly when you don't eat meat! My sister picked me up some homeopathic remedy granules for joint pain the other day that are vegetarian and I'm so excited to see how they work! (They do have lactose in them so they're not vegan. I'm a little torn about that.) I honestly don't know what I'd do if my knees didn't hurt! It would be so wonderful to be able to crouch down or sit on the floor without wondering how I'm going to get up or sit thru an entire movie without my knees cramping up! My sister said to give it a week to see if they work. So far it's been one full day.

I just got a pedometer a few days ago and now I'm obsessed with how many steps everything is. I went to the gym Saturday (haven't been there in months because I've been walking outside). I went way to town on the treadmill listening to my walkman and actually hurt my back. What kind of nerd hurts their back on a treadmill??? But I just had to get to 10,000 steps and decided that I could get there quicker at 4mph than 3mph. DOH! Also to get extra steps in I've been marching at my desk. I think my co-workers want to commit me:)I put on some good dance music and go to town. If I have to be here anyways I mine as well burn some calories right? My biggest fear is secretary ass. I don't need that shit.

I went to a gathering last night at a coworkers house and practiced the most self control I think a person could have!!! There were four of us and we all made/brought food to share. I volunteered to bring the main dish because then I knew it would be vegan:) And one other person made a big salad and left the cheese out so that was vegan too! That was what I ate. I turned down the huge box of pizza sitting right in front of me and the boston cream pie!!! I ate another little salad while everyone else ate dessert. WTF??? Where did this inner strength come from?!

I have been averaging 4-5 vegan days a week. I'm very proud of that! I always faulter on the weekend. This weekend I'm going to try very hard to stay vegan. I'm so good at home but I just cave when we eat out. The bonus is that I've been losing weight since I've made a more conscious effort to eat vegan. While you can of course still eat vegan junk food it's more difficult.

So last time I checked, bacon doesn't grow in a garden!!! My boss bought everyone lunch today and they all picked this bar up the street that delivers. I passed since there was nothing healthy and vegetarian let alone vegan on the menu. They all just kept bugging me to order so I ordered a Garden Salad which was not on the menu but since they sold other salads that had meat and other things on them I figured they could handle it. I did remember to ask for no cheese and no egg but didn't think that I needed to mention no meat since I had specifically used the word garden. Well I get beck from my lunch hour and my salad is sitting there waiting for me with bacon all over it. Thank goodness I anticipated stupidity and grabbed some leftovers from last night while I was at home.

I slammed on the brakes, put my window down and yelled "DON'T THROW SHIT AT MY CAR!!! WHERE DO YOU LIVE??? GO HOME!!!" I can't believe that a small child would be left outside unsupervised. as i pulled away i heard someone yelling "Evan" so I'm asumming someone heard me yelling at the kid.
What a lovely weekend. Friday was Erie Waters. We had a fun time and then an even funner time when we left and saw a huge roach outside. It was so NASTY!!! I never get food there and decided to this time. I almost chunked. I know that most restaurants probably have roaches but it's a whole other story when you actually see them!

Saturday I went to Trader Joe's and Wild Oats with Mickie. It was nice to see what things she has tried that I have not yet to get her opinion of them. We were going to go to the YMCA Dream House but I was super tired and we decided to do it another day and I took a nap Saturday night I went to down to Akron with my sister and Nikki to Thursday's. It was sorta boring but we saw Patches so that was fun!

sunday was Meech day. we went to Mosquito Lake and had a picnic. I had never been there before. It's so beautiful! We got to see lots of Amish on the way there which was awesome. Then we went to the Memphis road drive in to see Batman begins. It was ok but the popcorn was the shit!!! I will be there each and every weekend this summer just for the popcorn!

Yesterday was a lazy day. we went to his parents first and then walked to the fireworks with my parents.

I was checking out what's new over at the white stripes site and was able to buy pre-sale tickets for their sept 14th cleveland show! And the best part is we'll be in row 4! I can't even believe it (and probably won't until I have the tickets in hand!) Tickets go onsale to the public friday and it's such a nice feeling knowing that mine are already paid for!

What a weekend! Friday night was bad! I had a charity walk with my sister from 10-midnight and then was going to go to by friends b-day party. Well, change of plans! On the way to the walk (which of course we were running late for!) we stopped at Steak and Shake because there just wasn't time for much else. We both got a grilled cheese and I got onion rings and a shake. (nothing like a healthy meal to ensure a successful walk!) We ate at record speed got to the track late but immediately started walking. 15 minutes into this thing and my stomach starts going crazy! OMG - I had a near code brown on a high school track! It was aweful. I felt horrible all night and needless to say never made it to the party:( I can't believe the way my body reacts to fast food now. A meal like that would have been no problem a few months ago. I guess it's good that I'm getting healthier! Saturday I went to garage sales and got 3 solid Mary Kay leads! I thenhad a wedding reception where I got 3 more leads! What a great MK day! I lost my cell phone sometime on Saturday and did not find it again until this morning! That sucked! Oh! I ran into Tete's friend Saturday night in Akron at Thursday's! that was fun. Sunday was relaxing as I slept in until 2! I love that on the weekend:) So that about wraps up my weekend.

weekend

SO I was sick all weekend. While I'm glad that I didn't have to take a sick day, it sucked to waste a 3 day weekend feeling so out of it. I still don't feel so great today but it is against the law to take off month end and besides, I wouldn't have gotten paid for yesterday if I missed today. I hope I feel better soon:( I'm also sick of the you est healthier than anyone here yet you're always sick comments. These people need to take several allergy pills EVERY day to feel close to normal and I'm the sickie! I don't think so!!!

01. reply with your name and I will write something I like about you.
02. I will then tell what song/movie/icon reminds me of you.
03. if I were to apply an o'clock to you, I'll tell you what it would be.
04. I will try to name a single word that best describes you.
05. I'll tell you the most memorable moment I've had with you.
06. I will tell you what animal you remind me of.
07. I'll then tell you something that I've always wondered about you.
08. put this in your journal. And if you respond to this, you'd better put this thing in your own LJ. In fact, I will check your LJ and won't reply until I see it there! If I have to do this onerous curse, you do too.

I saw the most horrifying movie last night at the Cleveland Film Festival called Peaceable Kingdom. It was about factory farming. I always knew that it was wrong and I've read about it but seeing it was heart breaking. The director was at the viewing and was quick to point out there was no actual gore in the movie. She wanted to keep it as real as possible and she felt that when you actually show the slaughter people shut down and she didn't want that to happen. I've never cried so much in my life. If people treated domestic animals anything near this poorly they would be in prison. The director also stated that she was very careful to only show normal factory farm/slaughter house activity. nothing in the movie is out of the ordinary for these places. She didn't want anyone viewing her film to be able to say well this only happens in a small number of places. She said that the egg industry actually said that this movie is a very accurate portrayal of what happens and that people like her need to be dealt with because if this movie gets into the hands of young viewers, then they're in trouble! Watching this movie made me so happy to have given up meat 6 months ago. I am in the process of buying a copy of this movie because I honestly feel that everyone needs to see it.
